You were more than 16 000 helping us on our Apple quest to get the VoIP privilege. We can’t thank you enough for your support. Unfortunately, Apple has confirmed that they are not willing to do any exception to the rule and that Sparrow will NOT be granted with the privilege. This means we’ll have to do Push on our side and that it will be integrated as a yearly subscription into Sparrow’s future update.Oh dear, I was hoping Apple would give in. Still, at least it is coming, although I will have to see how they are handling this before I dive in. I have suggested a safe way (and free) way to enable push notifications, at least for those with OSX. That is using sparrow for mac to act as a middle man, have sparrow for mac forward push notifications to the phone client.
I know it is possible, because colloquy and znc have done just this, they will forward your notifications from IRC via the colloquy client running on your machine to your phone. This means no one is looking after your email logins, they're all safely on your own machine (as safe as that is) and there are no hosting costs for sparrow, and they could even use it as a 'pro' feature on sparrow for mac, driving paid adoption for both of their applications.
Of course, the other option would always be there for others who don't want to do this, or perhaps do not have a Mac.
